Lawyer in the Bar of Lyon (France)
International business lawyer
France – Canada – Korea – China
With a Master in Business Law
and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Corporate Law and Taxation (DJCE), the Bar certificate of Québec (Canada), having attended Law School in Versailles (France), the EM Lyon Business School, the call of the bar sounded stronger than that of in-house counsel at the outset of her career.
After qualifying as a lawyer in business law, Cecile practiced from 2000 with the law firm Berlioz & Co, which offered her the opportunity of leaving behind her dearly beloved non-contentious business law to be trained as a corporate litigator of foreign companies.
In 2002, she left Berlioz & Co to work as a lawyer in South Korea for Kim & Chang, the great Asian law firm based in Seoul, having a desire to work in an international forum for multi-nationals, Mid Caps. and SMEs wishing to make ties between France and Korea. Corporate law, taxation, contractual negotiations, intellectual property, litigation and arbitration in this bicultural international environment became her daily bread.
The call of the company finally winning out,
but not wanting to sever ties with South Korea, in 2004 she created and then headed up the legal department of the hi-tech giant LG Electronics in France. There, along with her team of lawyers, she dealt with all of the legal affairs of the company, including contractual negotiations, economic law, distribution, corporate law, intellectual property, environmental law, employment law, litigation against clients and suppliers and representing the company before public bodies (customs, competition authorities, etc.).
In parallel, she provided training to French expatriates heading out to South Korea and to Korean businessmen arriving to work in France.
In 2010, she made the difficult decision of leaving LG to become in-house counsel managing the Partnerships and Acquisitions department of a large distribution group. Casino group is a multinational company having subsidiaries in Asia and South America.
Since then, thanks to her dual abilities as a private practice lawyer and in-house counsel and to her international experience, she has developed her own law firm (D2K Avocats) focusing on the provision of legal advice, particular on overseas projects.
In addition to her French mother tongue,
she speaks fluent business English, conversational German and some basic Korean and Chinese.
Ms. Dekeuwer is also the President of the Lyon’s Bar International Committee (CIBLY), an active member of international business lawyers’ associations such as the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the French Chamber of Commerce in Korea (FKCCI), the French Institute of Directors (IFA) and the General Counsel Association in France (AFJE). She was the Regional President of the international NGO Business & Professional Women founded in 1919 in the United States.
